Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Newsish (“the app,” “we,” “our”) handles, how it’s used, and what stays on your device. Newsish is built to work without an account and without a backend server that stores your data — this policy reflects that design.

Information stored on your device

To personalize your feed, Newsish stores the following locally, using Apple’s standard on-device storage. None of this data leaves your device or is visible to us:

• Your saved articles list
• Topic and source filter preferences — including any custom filters you create, and the on-device learning data that fine-tunes them over time
• Display and reading preferences (feed style, appearance settings, how articles open)

Because this information exists only on your device, deleting the app deletes it. We have no copy and no way to recover or access it.

On-device filtering and summaries

Newsish uses on-device machine learning (Apple’s Core ML and Foundation Models frameworks) to filter articles based on the preferences you set, and — on compatible iPhones — to write article summaries when you ask for one. All of this happens entirely on your device. Article text is not sent to Newsish’s servers (there are none) or to any third-party AI service.

Information the app fetches from news sources

Newsish is a news reader: its core function is retrieving publicly available news content. Articles come from one place only — RSS feeds published by the news outlets themselves (for example BBC, NPR, and The Guardian, along with any other sources you follow). Newsish does not use a third-party news aggregation service or news API.

To show you articles, the app makes network requests to:

• The RSS feed addresses of the sources you follow
• The article images and logos referenced by those sources, which load from the publisher’s own servers or image host
• The article’s own page on the publisher’s site, when you tap to read it

These requests work like visiting any website — the publisher can see that a request came from your device (including your IP address), the same way it would if you opened their page in a browser. Newsish does not send your saved articles, filters, or any other personal data to these sources; it only requests content.

We encourage you to review the privacy practices of any news source you follow, as we don’t control how they handle requests to their own servers.

Analytics, advertising, and tracking

Newsish does not include analytics, crash-reporting services, advertising networks, or cross-app or cross-site tracking of any kind. We don’t know how you use the app beyond what’s visible on your own device, and we have no mechanism to find out.

Children’s privacy

Newsish is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. Since the app collects no personal data at all, this holds for every user.

Your choices

• Delete your data: uninstall the app. All locally stored preferences and saved articles are removed with it.
• Reset preferences: use the in-app settings to clear filters or saved articles at any time.

Changes to this policy

If Newsish’s data practices ever change — for example, if we introduce an optional account, sync, or analytics feature in the future — we’ll update this policy and the “Last updated” date above before that change ships.
